Love and companionship complement vet care and healing and helps animals recover faster. This is why, when we rescue animal families or friends, we keep them together or encourage them to build new families at The Gentle Barn.
After the passing of our beloved pig named Truffles, her dear friend Jellie became lonely and desperate for companionship. Because pigs are prey animals, they need each other to feel safe. They also need buddies with whom to play, eat, sleep, and love. A pig without friends can become bored or depressed, which could lead to destructive behaviors or even illness.
Jellie missed Truffles so much, and we knew we would have to find her a friend. We received a call from an animal sanctuary who had recently rescued a pregnant pig in efforts to saving both the mother and her babies from a life of exploitation. The mother gave birth to a handful of beautiful piglets, and we were more than thrilled to adopt one.
On April 25, 2019, we brought home and introduced our new addition to The Gentle Barn family. It was not only a surprise for Jellie, but Jay also found a way to surprise Ellie with our eight-week-old bundle of joy. The moment was filmed on our live feed where thousands of our supporters were able to share with us such an enjoyable experience.
Your support enables us to continue saving and caring for some of the most vulnerable and neglected animals. Through animal sponsorships, we can provide our rescued animals with the proper vet and animal care, food, and lots of love and attention.
