Living life is an exciting adventure. You genuinely have no idea what will transpire from one day to the next. The great opening from Charles Dickens “The Tale of Two Cities” epitomizes our present times: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was
the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only. One day things could not be better and the next day things could not be worse. No one is exempt from the hardships and difficulties that life brings. You struggle with the question of why and how come? What did I do to deserve this? Jesus informed you that, “He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matt 5:45). Your greatest struggle is that you don’t possess the power to change the dynamics. Your only choice is to press on. You try to maintain a positive attitude and believe that things will change and get better. As a follower of Christ, you are expecting your “But God” moment when your season of darkness will intersect with the glorious Light of God’s promises and provisions. Never forget, it is not how you begin the journey of life and where it takes you, but how you finish at the end of your life. When your hope, trust and faith is in Jesus Christ, you can know with absolute certainty that you will finish with excellence because you have the “no matter what” mentality.
