Participants in this workshop will learn mindfulness practices to enhance self-care and bring presence and awareness to internalized self-perceptions and messages that may interfere with ones’ sense of wellbeing. Participants will practice the three core elements of mindfulness (Shapiro & Carlson, 2009; Shapiro et al, 2006) intention, attention, and attitude and how awareness of the moment to moment experience, without trying to change it, allows for a shift in ones’ relationship to ones’ experiences that can break through habitual reactivity to more fully engaged and empowered actions and responses. This practice of presence and awareness will also be used as a lens to view some of the systemic injustices that are prevalent in world of theater. Participants will engage in experiential and creative exercises to gain awareness of unconscious biases towards self and others, and learn choice points to develop and grow.
